Stage Four - Award

If the applicant's Performance Claim is substantiated, they will receive a Final Verification Report, a Technology Fact Sheet defining conditions of performance and a framed Verification Certificate, which is usually awarded to the "graduate" by the Minister of the Environment or a designated representative, typically at a major trade show if the Minister is available, and depending on planned participation by various stakeholders. A license agreement is also executed between ETV Canada and the 'graduate' company.

The license agreement and use of the intellectual property owned by Environment Canada, specifically the ETV Canada name, logo, Environmental Technology Verification phrase and other references to the program, is valid for three (3) years. The Technology Fact Sheet is also valid for three years. On the third anniversary, the verification will be up for renewal. At that time, should the graduate wish to continue with the program, a license renewal fee will apply. The renewal process can occur smoothly provided there are no changes to the technology in question and the performance claim is still validated; however if there are significant changes more detailed analysis may be required. This is up to the graduate at the end of the three-year period.

An amended performance claim is possible along with a revised Technology Fact Sheet, depending on the circumstances.

If an awardee does not renew after the initial three year period or subsequent three year period, the Technology Fact Sheet will be removed from the ETV Canada website and use of the verification logo and other intellectual property owned by Environment Canada is suspended. Awardees are contacted by ETV Canada, in advance of the renewal date, to consider renewal of their verification.

ETV Certificates and Technology Fact Sheets may be renewed indefinitely provided that there are no significant changes made to the technology, if the renewal fee has been paid, if there is no misuse of the intellectual property, and if the Technology Fact Sheet has not been altered by the awardee in any way.
